Oh, hey!

I’m Alicia. Writer, mother, and unofficial reason the pasta industry has survived the great carbohydrate deficiency of this century. I spent my youth in Avalon Beach, the activewear capital of Australia. A word nerd and horse girl who tried to tan and pretended to be okay in the ocean when my feet couldn’t touch the bottom. I think because of the discordance within myself I often wondered what mysteries might lay beneath other people’s normal looking exteriors. The truth is, with a quirky mother who taught aerobics and played drums along a deceptively charming con-man father, I never really stood a chance of being ‘normal’… And soon discovered how wonderful that is. But I never lost that sense of curiosity in people and the human psyche. As a 17 year old straight A student, I read On the Road and soon after quit high school early. I worked with horses for a while but by 19 I was off to live in London with a one way ticket and $350 to my name.

The thirst for juicing as much as I could out of life never really got quenched. Along the way I wrote little poems, read the Beats and discovered a love of the classics and existentialists, studied acting, picked pairs for three days and made $1, studied fine art, worked in a second-hand bookshop, travelled, exhibited my photography, worked in childcare, worked in retail, travelled more, met soulmates packaged in the bodies of strangers in Los Angeles, got flipped off by Jon Stamos, made websites, learned marketing, and eventually managed an ecommerce and retail brand in Sydney. I had no idea where I was going or what I wanted to “do” and zero intention of kidding myself otherwise, but I gave everything my all and enjoyed every moment. I just knew that one day I would know it when I saw it.

In 2016 a cliche would lead me to the discovery of my own inciting incident… A break-up resulted, somehow, in a short film screenplay. The rest, as they say, is the present. My debut short film as writer, director and producer, THE WAVE screened widely on the international festival circuit and was picked up for distribution by US based Hewes Pictures. Since then I’ve continued to write, direct and produce for private clients and Blacklock Media, and write spec scripts. My proof of concept short script ROADSIDE placed as a Semi Finalist in the 2020 Austin Screenplay Awards and Filmmatic Short Screenplay Awards. It is now in development to be shot late 2023.
